5月4日、待ちに待ったPRSS2020の連絡がきた。今年はコロナの影響で、HDRのためにspecial considerationがあると事前にスーパーバイザーから情報を得ていたものの、ふたを開けると想像以上に「ゆる～い(^_^)」というか「お優しい(/ω＼)」決定がなされた。

最初に言っておけど、今年のPRSSはコロナのおかげで特別！今年だけのルール。

Facultyの決断

メールの冒頭はこんな感じ↓

Please be advised that the Postgraduate Research Support Scheme (PRSS) is now open for 2020 but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Faculty of Medicine and Health will not be accepting PRSS applications in 2020.

私の所属するファカルティ―は、今年はPRSSの募集はしない！！

PRSSの本来の目的はHDRの学生の研究助成を行うこと。現在コロナの影響で研究活動に制限がかかっており、なかなかこのような状況でHDRの選抜も難しいのは理解できる。そしてファカルティが出した決断はこれ↓

The PRSS funding allocation for the Faculty will instead be distributed equally among all currently enrolled students that meet the eligibility requirements.

When applications close for other faculties at 11:59pm on 2 June, HDRAC will assess the eligibility of all enrolled students and provide this information to the Faculty PRSS committee before payment occurs.

HDRみんなに一律でPRSSを支給する。

PRSS2020支給額

PRSS payments to eligible candidates will be distributed in June/July 2020. The amount received will depend on the number of opt-out notifications received for the Faculty (please see below for more information on opt outs) so we are unable to provide an estimate of the amount until after the round is closed (in June). At this time you will receive an email with confirmation of the amount.

現時点では支給金額は不明！

通常通りPRSSを行うファカルティもあるので、それらのアプリケーションが閉まるのを待ってから、ファカルティより給付の連絡を受けることになる。

ちなみに同じような決断を下したスクールやファカルティは下記の4つです。

- Faculty of Medicine and Health
- Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
- The University of Sydney Law School
- The University of Sydney Business School

通常通りPRSSを実施するファカルティはエンジニアリング、サイエンスなどなど↓↓

If you are a student in the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, Sydney Conservatorium of Music or School of Architecture, Design and Planning, you will need to apply for PRSS funding through the usual application process. You can lodge one application in any PRSS round.

PRSS条件

まず前提として、HDRはPRSS受給のために資料提出のなど手続きは一切必要ない。PRSS 2020 OPT-OUT制度があるので、自らPRSS受給辞退を申し出ない限り全ての学生がスクリーニング対象となる。

ようは待っていればお金が勝手に口座へ振り込まれるというシステム。

こんな簡単にお金がもらえることなんてこれが最初で最後だと思う！

In response to this year’s highly challenging pandemic, the Faculty of Medicine and Health will distribute the entire PRSS budget among all eligible HDR candidates in the Faculty, without a formal application process. The purpose of this change is to provide a small amount of financial support for eligible candidates at this time.

あとは3つのeligibilityをみてみるだけでよし。

【1】At the closing date, the candidate must be a currently enrolled HDR student in the Faculty of Medicine and Health and their candidature cannot have exceeded the following full-time (or parttime equivalent) periods:
i. 3.5 years full time if you are a doctoral student
ii. 1.75 years full time if you are a master’s by research student.

私はPhD3年生（MPhil期間だった10か月を含めて現在は2年3ヶ月目に突入したところ）なのでこれはクリア☆

話はそれるけど、約2年ほど前にHDR年数の変更が行われた。記憶では2019年1月から施行された？と思う。しかもその時はPhDは4年から3.75年になったと記憶していたけど、これをみると「PhD4年→3.5年へ短縮」「MPhil2年→1.75年へ短縮」が最終決定のようです。ちなみに私は旧制度が適用されているので卒業は4年（最短3年）というプログラムの中にいま～す！

【2】Satisfactory progress
Provided the candidate is making satisfactory progress:
i. having met or exceeded the standards on their most recent progress review, this
includes passing the Probation review,
ii. and have not exceeded the normal period of candidature (see 1. above),

私は過去にAPR(Annual Progress Review)を2回受けた。そこでの良い評価をもらっているのでこれもクリア☆

話はまたまたそれるけど、スーパーバイザーの事前情報「今年はAPRは半年前倒しで実施」については、1年目か2年目のHDRで過去にAPRを1度も受けていない学生が対象となった。そして事前情報のとおり今年からAPR制度はリニューアルされ、インタビュー時間はHDR30分、SUPERVISOR30分で1セットとされた。ちなみにインタビューは個別に行われる。スーパーバイザーの学生のうち1人が早期APR対象になった。パートタイムPhDのMは今年2年目になるがまだAPRを受けたことがなかったそうです。私としては過去のレビューでの評価をみてくれるおかげで、書類提出等の雑務がなくなり安心しております。

【3】Part time students will receive half of the allocation provided to Full time students

パートタイムの学生の支給額は、フルタイムの学生の半額となります。ふふふ。満額もらえる。

以上の3つの内容がeligibilityでした。

ね？今年のPRSSは楽勝。

こわいくらいです。

このPRSS、卒業までに最高3回まで獲得が可能です(MPhilは最高1回)。

※ちなみに卒業までにPRSS3回獲得した人を私は1人しか知りません(笑)周りの学生をこの2年間みてきたけど1回獲得が標準な感じがします。ファイナルイヤーに1回って感じかな。

アラフォー学生は何事にも必死なので、ダメ元で毎年かかさずエントリーしてます。
